The numerous endeavours of the residents of Pleven in the orchestral field culminated in success in 1953<\/b> when the distinguished Bulgarian conductor Sasha Popov<\/b> established the State Symphony Orchestra<\/b> in Pleven. The inaugural concert took place on September 6<\/b>, with Pancho Vladigerov<\/b> as the soloist. Over the years, the ensemble flourished under the direction of prominent Bulgarian musicians such as Alexander Vladigerov, Emil Yanev, Dimitar Manolov, Plamen Djourov, as well as Dobrin Petkov, Konstantin Iliev, Ruslan Raichev, Ivan Marinov, Yordan Dafov, Vasil Kazandjiev, Tzanko Delibozov, Nayden Todorov, Yordan Kamdzhalov, Grigor Palikarov, Deyan Pavlov<\/b>, and others.<\/p>\n

Maestro Georgi Notev<\/b>, who served as the orchestra’s principal conductor from 1973<\/b> to 2008 <\/b>, is undoubtedly responsible for the orchestra’s growth and its establishment in Bulgaria and abroad. Under his leadership, the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra <\/b>participated in concerts and festivals in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Romania, Greece, making recordings for the Bulgarian National Radio and Bulgarian National Television and for a number of foreign record companies. During the period 1970 to 1994<\/b>. <\/span>The Pleven Philharmonic also serves as the orchestra for the Pleven Opera “Hristo Botev”<\/b>. Until the closure of the opera, more than 50 titles<\/b> were staged, including operas, operettas, and ballets.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Pleven became a focal point for numerous Bulgarian composers such as Pancho Vladigerov,<\/span> Marin Goleminov,<\/span> Veselin Stoyanov,<\/span> Alexander Raichev,<\/span> Dimitar Nenov,<\/span> Pencho Stoyanov,<\/span> Victor Chuchkov,<\/span> Mikhail Pekov,<\/span> Georgi Kostov,<\/span> Krasimir Taskov,<\/span> Georgi Arnaudov,<\/strong> who participate in solo concerts or are guests during performances of their works.<\/p>\n

Soloists of the orchestra have been internationally renowned performers: Nedyalka Simeonova, Vadim Spivakov, Georgi Badev, Gena Dimitrova, Kaludi Kaludov, Khristina Angelakova, Anna Tomova-Sintova, Evgeny Nesterenko, Emil Kamilarov, Dina Shnyderman, Stefan Popov, Milcho Leviev, Igor Oistrakh, Yordanka Derilova, Oleg Krisa, Yovcho Krushev, Lyudmil Angelov, Vania Milanova, Alexandru Tomescu, Svetla Krasteva, Satoki Aoyama, Michel Leotik, Luc Eri, Vesko Eshkenazi, Borislav Yotsov, Bulent Evgil, Mariana Panova, Edelina Kaneva, Mario Hosen, Plamena Mangova, Dora Deliyska, Mark Buskov, Svet Stoyanov, Vasilena Serafimova, Ari Boutris, Lia Petrova<\/strong> and many others. others.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Prominent conductors from Europe, Asia, and America have visited the Pleven Philharmonic<\/b>, including Konstantin Orbelyan<\/b>, Diane Wittry<\/b>, Eckart Preu<\/b>, Yuri Yanko<\/b>, and Olivier Holt<\/b>. The orchestra has repeatedly participated in concerts at festivals such as the “New Bulgarian Music<\/b>,” “Varna Summer<\/b>,” “Sofia Musical Weeks<\/b>,” “Apollonia<\/b>,” and other prestigious music forums. It is a regular participant in the International Music Festival “Laureate Days” named after Katya Popova<\/b> in Pleven. In 2006, the Pleven Philharmonic organized the First National Competition for Young Opera Singers “Gena Dimitrova.”<\/b> After a 10-year hiatus, the third edition of the competition took place in 2019.<\/p>\n

In recent years, performances and concerts in the open-air Summer Theater in Kaylaka Park have become an integral part of Pleven’s cultural life. The operas “Nabucco”<\/b> and “Aida”<\/b> by Verdi<\/b>, the cantata “Carmina Burana”<\/b> by Carl Orff<\/b>, and the “Musical Evening”<\/b> with Lucy Dyakovska<\/b> attract a large audience, both locals and visitors to the city of Pleven.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Pleven Philharmonic<\/b> has been awarded the high distinction “Crystal Lyre” <\/b>three times by the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists<\/b>: in 2019 in the category “Orchestral Art”, in<\/b> 2021 in the category “Pop and Rock Music”<\/b> and in 2022. In 2023 in the category “Instrumentalist”;<\/b> with the “Golden Pen”<\/b> prize for contribution to Bulgarian culture and art by Cantus Firmus <\/b>Agency and Maktas<\/b> Gallery with the media partnership of Radio Classic A<\/b>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

With various projects including “I Love Bulgarian Music,“<\/b> “An Evening of Musicals,” “Favorite Russian Songs,“<\/b> “Oscars in Music,“<\/b> “Favorite Movie Melodies and Songs,” “With the Music of Vili,“<\/b> and “Let’s Listen to Cinema,“<\/b> the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> has held hundreds of concerts across the country. In recent years, in collaboration with the National Philharmonic Choir “Svetoslav Obretenov”<\/b> under the baton of conductor Slavil Dimitrov<\/b>, performances of Faure’s Requiem<\/b>, Carl Orff’s<\/b> “Carmina Burana,”<\/b> and under the baton of maestro Yordan Kamdzhalov<\/b> – Bruckner’s<\/b> Great Mass No. 3<\/b>, were held at the Bulgaria Hall in Sofia.<\/p>\n

In 2019, the orchestra added remarkable achievements to its creative biography with the mega-concert “The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber,”<\/b> realised with the participation of the National Philharmonic Choir “Svetoslav Obretenov”<\/b> and world-renowned soloists from Germany<\/b> and the United Kingdom<\/b>. The virtuoso violinist Vesko Pantaleev-Eshkenazy<\/b> entrusted the Pleven Philharmonic<\/b> for his anniversary concert, kicking off a dazzling tour across Bulgaria.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
